Perpignan
A southern French city half an hour from the Spanish border, regarded as the capital of Northern Catalonia — Catalan is still heard in the streets. In the 13th and 14th centuries it was the capital of the short-lived Kingdom of Majorca, and the palace from that period stands at the city's highest point.
