City guide
Lisbon
Portugal's capital, built on seven hills at the mouth of the Tagus; the city was largely destroyed in the great earthquake of 1755, and the Baixa district was rebuilt on one of the earliest earthquake-resistant urban plans of its time. The Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery, carrying the legacy of the voyages of discovery, are UNESCO-listed.
