Istanbul
The only major city built across two continents, running from the historic peninsula to the shores of the Bosphorus; it served in turn as the capital of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace are gathered around the same square, and this part of the historic peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
